Turning Nap Time into Productivity: How One Mom Built a Podcasting Business from Her Living Room

Welcome to the Pod Mama Diary blog!

If you’re a multitasking mom reading this during nap time, folding laundry or sipping reheated coffee you’re in the right place. This post is for the mama who dreams of building something of her own in the pockets of peace she finds throughout the day.

Today, I’m pulling back the curtain on how I transformed my baby’s nap time into a powerful 4-hour work routine that helped me build a podcasting business from home. What started as an hour of “me time” turned into a lifestyle shift that’s changing my future one episode, one post, and one task at a time.

The Beginning of a Journey:

In the early postpartum days hair messy, sleep-deprived and emotions running high I felt an overwhelming desire to create something for myself. But I didn’t know where to start.

Then one day, my baby unexpectedly napped for more minutes. In that small window of silence, I whispered to myself:

"What if I just gave myself one hour a day? One guilt-free, pressure-free hour?”

That hour turned into four.

Though I used to believe time blocking was only for CEOs with fancy planners, I learned it can work wonders for tired moms, too especially those who dream of starting a business or podcast from home.

Discovering Time Blocking: A Game-Changer for Mompreneurs:

I started using Google Calendar to divide my nap-time hours into clear blocks of focus. Here’s how my simple 4-hour routine looks:

Hour 1 – Content Creation

As a podcast manager and creator, I use this hour to write episode scripts, brainstorm social media ideas and create carousels or reels. AI tools like ChatGPT help streamline the process and keep ideas flowing.

Hour 2 – Client Work

This block is for editing client podcasts, uploading episodes, and working on marketing strategies to help women grow their podcasts and reach new audiences.

Hour 3 – Admin & Engagement

I handle emails, engage in podcasting Facebook groups, and take time to upskill by learning about trends, tools, and strategies.

Hour 4 – Personal Growth or Overflow

Sometimes I catch up on spillover tasks or simply take a break and reflect. Even 15 minutes of journaling can reset my mindset for the day.

This system isn’t perfect, but it gives me clarity and helps me stay consistent which, in the world of podcasting and content creation, is everything.

Staying Motivated When You're Running on Empty

Let’s be honest some days, I don’t feel like doing anything. I just want to nap with the baby. But staying motivated is possible with a few simple practices:

  • A Dedicated Workspace: I set up a cozy, clutter-free corner that reminds me of my goals.

  • Vision Board: My wallpaper features dreams and affirmations that keep me focused.

  • Progress Tracking: I carry a notebook to jot down wins, ideas, and inspiration.

Movement creates motivation not the other way around.

My Go-To Productivity Tools for Podcasting

You don’t need expensive tools to start your podcasting journey. These budget-friendly (and often free) platforms are my must-haves:

  • Google Calendar – for time blocking and scheduling

  • Notion – for content planning and script writing

  • Descript – for editing audio effortlessly

  • Apple Notes – to quickly capture thoughts on the go

With the right system, you can build something beautiful from your kitchen table during nap time.

Finding My Voice Through Podcasting:

In the quiet hours of motherhood, I discovered the power of podcasting. It became my creative outlet, my business model, and my connection to women worldwide.

Inspired by a fellow mom who built a spice brand through her radio show, I realized:

Podcasting is a megaphone for women told to stay small.

I launched my own show The Pod Mama Diary and built a business helping other women launch and grow theirs.
